Why RAGE?

This web site is for residents, relatives and care professionals in the field of Social Care for the
Elderly facing closure of Residential Care Homes.

This information is also useful for people with learning difficulties who are facing reduction in
services and closures.

Residential Home closures for the elderly, together with the general reduction of care facilities,
are happening all over the UK. There is a great feeling of helplessness when dealing with Social
Services Care Professionals.

RAGE (Relatives Action Group Elderly) was formed to help and to support campaigns and individuals
facing eviction from their Care Home.

We are not a charity but a campaign group that really does have something to offer. We don’t just
offer to send you a leaflet in response to a donation. So far we have helped over 15 groups with
publicly funded (legal aided) Judicial Reviews of Council decisions to close Residential Care Homes.
We cannot promise that you will win, but in all cases the relatives feel a lot better for trying, and
have often achieved a much better outcome. The following pages give you insights and resource
information to help you in your campaign.

Beware the meaning behind weasel words...
Consultation  A meaningless ritual to avoid a Judical Review (that we bring).
Re-provision  Closure.
Not fit for the purpose  We haven't spent any maintenance money for years and now we say
it will be uneconomic to repair/improve.
Everything will be done with the utmost care  We won't tell you the risks of premature
deaths and smile a lot, using lots of silly words.
Your Mum’s/Dad’s needs cannot be met  We want them out as fast as possible.
Wouldn't your Mum like to go to a...  Break up her friendships with other residents, their
relatives and most important the carers they trust, and offer her better light fittings instead.
Got to close because of the Care Standards Act  It's a lie if they use it now. Wasn't at the time
as it was the law. Nowadays they say the room is too small for hoisting equipment.
